About The Website
This website was born on New Year's Day, 1999. Originally known as "Hey Capeman! The Paul Simon Site," the site was meant to be a web home for the newsgroup alt.music.paul-simon. Immediately, it became clear that Paul Simon web content was decent, but not at all recent. Some of my favourite websites hadn't been updated in months - some had been removed. So the site went from being the home of a.m.p-s on the web to the reasonably-often updated location for news and information about what Paul Simon was up to now. As a bonus, MP3 clips of unreleased/live Paul Simon material were posted on the site, causing it to exceed traffic limits set up by my ISP. Thus, almost as soon as Hey Capeman! was born, it needed to be taken down. After about six weeks, and thanks to some help from loyal readers, the site reopened with a brand new URL - http://Paul.Simon.org. In honour of the new location, a contest was held to rename the site. From a pack of wonderfully crafted site names (check 'em all out here), one was chosen. Submitted by Michael Aidulis, "Lasers In The Jungle" became the site's new name.
While the purpose of the site has evolved somewhat in its 16 month existence, the basic goal is the same: to provide on-line content about the music of Paul Simon to his many world-wide fans. All material used on the site is intended to educate - much of the images and content have been compiled from outside sources, and will be removed at the request of the proper owners. In the meantime, I invite you to explore the site - read reviews from Paul's summer '99 tour with Bob Dylan, or perhaps learn to play a few tunes in the guitar section. By all means, do yourself a favour and check out some of the other content available on-line, neatly summarized on the Links page. Most importantly, feel welcome to become part of the process - if you've got interesting stories to tell, or if you'd like to publish some interpretations of Paul's work, email me. This website is all about bringing the artist and the fan together - so do your share!
